Ashley Grubb is the Health & Wellness director at the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, where she manages group exercise instructors, personal trainers and a variety of fitness programs, including LIVESTRONG, CampFit (ages 8 – 10) and more.
Born with a knack for athletics and a love of helping people, Ashley got her start in the fitness industry at Pinker Air Force Base after graduating from Oklahoma State with a degree in health promotion. She soon discovered that the most rewarding part of her career was doing something valuable for her members’ lives and having a positive impact on their health. Not long after starting a side job at the local YMCA, she signed on full time; she loved the atmosphere there.
“People come to the YMCA for the way they feel when they go there. They make friends, develop routines and connect with others that share the same core values of building a healthy mind, body and spirit,” says Grubb. .
Ashley’s Success as a Personal Trainer
Although Ashley says that her crowning achievement thus far is helping to open a new 100,000+ square foot facility — the largest of 12 in her region, with 4 pools and new, top-of-the-line equipment — she couldn’t hide the passion in her voice when chatting about one of the best moments she’d experienced in her career: the half-marathon she ran with one of her LIVESTRONG members, Becca, a 32-year-old mother of 3 young children who had just completed stage 3 melanoma treatment.
